Recently, the shocking news of a bride being murdered on her wedding day in India has caused a stir in public opinion. What’s even more noteworthy is that the perpetrator of the crime turned out to be the groom.

According to Hindustan Times, the incident took place in the Mahanagar area of Lucknow city, Uttar Pradesh state, India. On May 4, 2023, it was supposed to be the wedding day for the 21-year-old bride Komal Kashyap and the 27-year-old groom Rahul Maurya, an electrician.

According to the police, on the morning of the incident, Komal said she was going to a beauty salon to get ready before the wedding, which was scheduled for that evening. However, many hours later, her family did not see her return home, so they became worried. They called Komal but got no answer and when they went to the beauty salon, they didn’t see her either. No one knew where the young bride had gone.

Worried that something might have happened to Komal, her family reported her missing to the Mahanagar police. The police quickly mobilized their forces to search for the missing person, checked the cameras on the route that Komal might have taken, and examined her communication history. They discovered that the last person who called Komal was Rahul, her fiancé.

The police summoned Rahul for questioning on suspicion of being involved in Komal’s disappearance. At first, Rahul lied and claimed to know nothing because he was busy preparing for the wedding. However, he later confessed to his crime.

It turned out that on the morning of May 4, Rahul called Komal to meet and talk. He took his fiancé to a picnic spot in the Kukrel forest, took advantage of the lack of people around, and used a scarf to strangle Komal to death. After that, Rahul turned off his phone and went home as if nothing had happened. The police suspected Rahul because they found him in the same location as the victim on that morning.

Rahul admitted that he killed his fiancé on their wedding day because he never wanted to marry Komal in the first place, but she pressured him into it. When the wedding was approaching, Rahul felt frustrated and decided to murder Komal. According to Rahul’s confession, the police found Komal’s body.

A press release from the Lucknow police said that Rahul Maurya has been arrested and detained on charges including abduction or kidnapping for the purpose of murder under Section 364, murder under Section 302, and providing false information to screen offenders under Section 201 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
