The girl’s family requested that the groom marry their daughter, and after negotiations, they agreed to have the wedding on January 17th. The groom’s family promised to give the bride’s family 60,000 baht (about $1,700 USD) in cash and gold jewelry as a wedding gift.

However, on the day of the wedding, the groom called to cancel the wedding, claiming that he did not have enough money for the wedding ceremony. Meanwhile, the bride’s family had already prepared for the wedding. A video circulating on social media shows the 15-year-old bride crying in the middle of the wedding venue.

The bride’s family is not well off, with only the father making a living selling street food and earning 300 baht (about $8.5 USD) a day to support his family of five. To prepare for the wedding, the father had to borrow money from relatives and friends and even mortgage his property. When he heard about the groom’s cancellation, he was extremely angry.

At first, he wanted to confront the groom’s family, but he eventually reported the incident to the authorities, accusing the 20-year-old groom of deceiving his daughter. The father also demanded that the groom’s family pay for the wedding and compensate his daughter for the emotional distress caused by the cancellation.

As a result of the investigation, the groom, Theeraphat Khemsunthia, was arrested on charges of sexual assault and abuse of a minor. During questioning, he promised to marry his underage girlfriend as soon as he had enough money.
