Weddings are supposed to be one of the happiest moments in people’s lives, but sometimes things don’t go as planned. From following the wrong Google Maps directions to the groom running away on the wedding day, there have been some strange and unexpected incidents that have happened during weddings in India and Indonesia.

In a recent incident reported by The Indian Express, a groom’s family in Central Java, Indonesia, used Google Maps to navigate to the wedding venue, but ended up in a neighboring village due to a glitch in the app. As fate would have it, there was a wedding taking place in that village as well, and the groom arrived late. The hosts of the wedding were gracious and welcoming, but during conversation with someone from the bride’s side, they realized that they had made a mistake. The groom’s family was then guided to the correct village where the bride was waiting for them.

In another incident from 2019 in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, a bride from the city of Bijnor got married to another man as her original groom was running late. The families had several conflicts, but eventually, the groom arrived and the wedding took place as planned. However, the woman later called off the wedding and got married to a younger man in the presence of the village elders.

Most recently, in January, according to India Times, a bride in the southern state of Karnataka got married to a guest at her own wedding after the groom went missing on the day of the ceremony. The bride, Sindhu, and the groom, Naveen, had completed all the traditional rituals before the wedding day. However, on the night before the wedding, Naveen disappeared mysteriously from his house.

Despite extensive search efforts, Naveen could not be found. It was later revealed that Naveen’s ex-girlfriend had threatened to commit suicide by consuming poison in front of the wedding guests if he got married. To pacify her, Naveen disappeared before the wedding, leaving Sindhu and the guests disappointed. To console her daughter, Sindhu’s parents announced that they were willing to marry her to any guest who was present at the wedding.

After witnessing the entire incident, a guest named Chandrappa, who worked for the local city council, agreed to marry the abandoned bride.

Weddings are joyous occasions, but sometimes unexpected things happen that can cause stress and chaos. These incidents from India and Indonesia show that weddings can be unpredictable, but also that love can prevail in the end. Despite the challenges, couples and families find ways to overcome them and celebrate their love, even if it means marrying a guest or waiting for the groom to arrive.
