A heartwarming story from the UK has captured the attention of people worldwide. Luke Hinojosa and Abi Morgan had planned to get married in June, but the COVID-19 lockdown forced them to cancel. However, the couple found a way to make their wedding dreams come true by holding a three-day celebration in a nursing home so that Luke’s grandmother, who is seriously ill, could attend.

Luke Hinojosa, 24, and Abi Morgan, 27, had originally planned to get married in June 2020. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they had to cancel their plans. They rescheduled for May 2021, but Luke’s grandmother, Vera Robertson, was ill and may not have lived to see the wedding.

Vera, 71, was diagnosed with bone marrow cancer in 2017 and was given only 12 months to live. She has been living in St Barnabas Hospice in Lincoln since then. Luke and Abi decided to hold a special wedding at the nursing home so that Vera could witness her grandson’s wedding.

Only six people were allowed to attend the wedding due to COVID-19 restrictions. The couple had a socially distanced ceremony in the nursing home’s garden, with Vera watching from her bed. In a touching moment, Vera even gave the couple their wedding rings.

The nursing home’s staff decorated the garden, and the catering team provided a lovely afternoon tea for the family. In a Facebook post, a representative of the nursing home said, “We are thrilled to have been able to help make this happen for Luke’s grandmother. Hospices are not just places you go to die; they are places to help people live as fully as possible for as long as possible.”

Luke Hinojosa and Abi Morgan’s story of holding a wedding in a nursing home is a beautiful example of how love can overcome obstacles. Their determination to make their wedding happen despite the pandemic and Vera’s illness is truly inspiring. The nursing home’s staff and facilities provided a caring and supportive environment for the couple and their family. The story shows that even in challenging times, people can find ways to celebrate love and make lasting memories.
