Say Yes To The Dress quests to match brides with their dream wedding attire, but, in some instances, that attire is pretty atypical.

It is incredibly easy to watch one episode after another of TLC’s popular reality series Say Yes to the Dress. The show takes viewers inside New York City’s elite Kleinfeld Bridal salon. The salon offers the most elaborate (and expensive) wedding dresses a bride could possibly find. Consultants assist brides, who sometimes have interesting requests. At the end of the appointment, the bride usually says “yes” to the dress of her dreams.

Some wedding dresses featured on the show are non-traditional; they’re not always white, and they’re sometimes more revealing than traditional wedding dresses. However, they’re perfect for the bride who finally says “yes” to the dress. Every bride is different, so let’s take a look at the most non-traditional dresses ever featured on the show.

Keeping It Short

Traditionally, wedding dresses are long and flowy with an elaborate train. They’re not short—especially with a length above the knee. However, some brides opt for short wedding dresses so they can dance more easily at their wedding reception.

A few of these brides have been featured on Say Yes to the Dress. Their dresses are knee-length with a see-through top. They sometimes feature ruffles and pleats to resemble a traditional wedding dress, but these dresses are definitely unique. The brides won’t have to worry about their friends wearing the same wedding dress as them.

Bring On The Silver

You have heard of white or ivory wedding dresses. Those are the traditional dresses you expect to see at a wedding. However, what about silver? Some brides desire to wear a silver wedding dress on their big day.

A silver dress is a trendy choice. Many of the silver dresses feature plenty of bling, which makes them glitter and shine. The dresses should probably come with a warning that you might need to wear sunglasses to look at them.

A Blue Ballgown

It’s actually more common for brides not to wear a white wedding dress on Say Yes to the Dress. In one episode, a bride wanted to wear a blue ballgown dress. Of course, the consultants and Kleinfeld Bridal Fashion Director Randy Fenoli were more than willing to help the bride find the most beautiful blue dress to meet her wedding needs.

The bride ultimately chose a baby blue ballgown dress that’s a mixture of Cinderella’s ballgown and the Fairy Godmother’s dress. It’s elegant, and it matched the bride’s winter-themed wedding.

Red And Romantic

Red is traditionally a romantic color. However, most brides don’t wear red wedding dresses. One bride decided to be daring with this red off-the-shoulder, ruffle-lined dress that everyone will notice.

The skirt has thick horizontal and vertical layers with more ruffles. It’s an elaborate dress that most brides wouldn’t want to wear on their big day, but this bride was the exception. She wanted a red dress to have a romantic vibe at her wedding. Let’s hope she was happy with it!

So Many Cut-Outs

Many wedding dresses in 2020 have sleeveless tops. They even have see-through tops, which aren’t exactly traditional. However, some dresses are even more dramatic with cut-outs on the top.

For example, this bride wanted a dress with a nude-illusion top and cut-outs. Patches of fabric and material cover her more revealing areas, but it’s not exactly a modest dress—nontraditional, but certainly unforgettable!

A Nearly-Nude Wedding Dress

It was once trendy to wear a nude-colored wedding dress, popularized by the Givenchy fashion line and some of these brides were featured on Say Yes to the Dress. The dresses combine tan and white colors to match the bride’s skin tone, ultimately making it look like she’s not wearing a dress at all.

The dresses are sometimes covered with lace appliques. These dresses make it obvious about what’s underneath the fabric, but they’re still daring. You have to be brave to wear this on your wedding day.

A Bouquet Of Roses

Brides have worn elaborate wedding dresses for decades. However, some brides want to look like they’re wearing a bouquet of roses instead of a wedding dress.

This wedding dress looks like a bouquet of roses. The skirt is a mixture of different ruffle styles and roses. The dress also has an awkward string tie on the bodice that doesn’t look like it belongs there, but, when it comes to non-traditional dresses, the bride’s happiness is paramount. It may not be for everyone, but viewers should have been thrilled that this bride found the dress of her dreams.

Pant Suits For The Win

Brides traditionally wear wedding dresses on their special day. However, a popular trend has exploded in recent years in which brides wear pantsuits. The attire is most appealing to brides who don’t like to wear dresses.

Pantsuits can still be elegant. For example, this Dennis Basso dress combines a pantsuit and dress with pants and a long flowy skirt attached at the waist. It’s a comforting outfit for brides who prefer to be casual, but it still looks dreamy and sophisticated.

Bold Prints

Some brides want to match their bridesmaids. So, they decide to wear a white wedding dress that also features a decorative, colorful print.

For example, one bride decided she wanted to wear a $5,300 Lazaro gown that has a red plant print pattern all over the dress. It would be a beautiful prom dress or bridesmaid dress, but other brides think the bride’s dress should stand out. It’s not bridal, but perhaps that’s what the bride preferred.

Black To A Wedding?

Most guests know not to wear black to a wedding. It’s a dark, depressing color, and it can be a sign of bad luck. However, some brides actually wear black wedding dresses on their wedding day.

Say Yes to the Dress has featured brides who opt for black dresses, including a Pnina Tornai gown that looks like something Morticia Addams would wear. The black dress shows off the bride’s curves, giving her an hourglass body shape that she desires. Wearing black might not be traditional, but it’s acceptable for some brides.
